I found this column in an early 1900's, deserted outdoor arena with cement steps and seating where one could only imagine its rich history of castle flavored gatherings and festivities. It was like an open air abandoned sanctuary, overgrown with tangled vines and foliage and pummeled with diving mosquitos. No plein air painting at this location; I took the picture knowing it was a rare glance and ran! What a joy to find it again in my camera and to have the opportunity to work Castle Column into a pastel. It might look grand matted into a gold ornate frame.
